Inside and Outside - Some Poems and Images by Gudrun Dreher

Here in This Blue Light The light here is so blue –  and bluer than ever before –   perhaps because its absence can also be felt. And right inside this blueness, this absence,   two white swans. Listen –   there is some music too –   lingering in the air –   adding a touch of magic. The Rock Under the water the green rock is slowly emerging: eyes looking inside, ears listening downward. There wet and slow the darkness is singing. This Morning’s Light  This morning's ligth bright and almost horizontal –   breathing silver over the sleeping leaves. Caught in the silver web of the sea’s sur- face the sun’s face –  reflecting  your smile.   Like Birds   There was some chirping behind her. Birds, she thought and turned round. In fact, she had to control herself to avoid slamming it into the case. “I really don’t know why I can’t play that piece,” she said. “I have practiced a lot this time.     Helena's Midsummer Night's Dream   A Story by Gudrun Dreher   “Stop it!” she tried to push him away. “Get off me!”  He didn’t stir.  Helena attempted to roll out from under the layers of blankets and sheets but instead got completely entangled.  “Damn it,” she said, “it’s three in the morning. Why the hell do you wake me up in the middle of the night?” Instead of replying, Oberon licked his left paw. He was sitting on her stomach and purring loudly.  “Okay, okay, I’ll get you some milk,” she said but didn’t move.              Tomorrow was the day to give notice at her office, if she decided to go to UBC in September  – if she decided to go.  But during the last couple of weeks, she had come to the conclusion that she’d better forget about the whole thing after all.
